Our house is a traditional Andalusian "casa de vecinos". It's a house made up of apartments. Apartments with different personalities, shapes and sizes. From our studio apartment that is separate from the main house to our two-bedroom apartment with outside dinning, we have options for different budgets and desires.
We are John and Daniel the creators and owners of Andaluz Living. Originally from the UK, we first came to the area in 2017 in a campervan and were attracted to the Andaluz way of life, always being outside, the relaxed atmosphere and generally the feeling of fulfilment from living life to the fullest.
A year later we started to look at houses with the intention of having a base in the area and John and Daniel appeared on "A Place in the Sun", a popular British TV programme that follows people searching for properties in warmer climes. Although we did not find the house on the show, we did find it the same week as filming.
A year later, after a year of flying back and forth every month we made the decision it was time to move from the UK to Spain and begin renovating full time. In 2023 John and Daniel reappeared this time with the house on "Place in the Sun, The Revisits." we were renovating the studio apartment at the time and the program focused not just on the house but also the major change in lifestyle. Most recently with the inability to sit still and with the opportunity to promote the business further we filmed with a different production company and programme, with John and Daniel captured in "A New life in the Sun." A programme that focuses on the expats with businesses in different countries (airs January 2025).
Our opinion has not changed since 2017, El Puerto and Spain remain great places to live, explore and enjoy life.
Our house is our home as well as our business. We understand that could appear strange to some, but it comes with many benefits. We are close by to deal with any day-to-day problems directly and because we live in the same building it is also in our interests to fix any problem quickly and efficiently. With sustainable tourism being popular topic of conversation., we believe our business to be sustainable as our business is a renovation project we are adding to our neighbourhood rather than taking anything away.
We encourage our guests to shop locally if they can so the local economy and the town along with its inhabitants can benefit. We have procedures and processes in place to minimize the social, economic and environmental impact of tourism.

Located in the historical centre on an old Roman cobbled road, the house is a 5–10-minute walk from most of the town's attractions. Castillo San Marcos, Plaza de Espana and the main street with a great selection of bars and restaurants. The fiestas in town are legendary the most popular are over Christmas, Easter, the Feria, and Halloween but you will often stumble upon celebrations every weekend!
Take the catamaran and get lost in the cobbled streets of Cadiz. Visit the Alcanzar or watch a horse show in Jerez. Explore a roof top white town like Vejer de la Frontera.
El Puerto is very well connected by road, train, bus, boat, and bike to amazing local towns and tourist attractions.
El Puerto de Santa Maria is located in the Sherry triangle. The well-respected Bodega Obregon is a 2-minute walk from the house where they store and sell sherry. You can try a glass with prices starting from a euro. Sherry is so much more than the drink you Nan has at Christmas it's a great place to try the different variations and find which one you like. A quiet place to go a weeknight, or a busy bustling place at the weekend to enjoy your sherry with local food. (food only at the weekends)
The bus stop for the beach (Puntilla) is on the same road, 30 seconds from the front door. We are in fact a short trip from some of the world's most famous sandy beaches. Our favourite is Las Redes and Muralla.
On the route of the Camino de Santigo we are in a traditional Spanish neighbourhood, we are lucky to have a butchers next door, a corner shop in front of the house, a fruit and veg shop on the end of the road with a cafe opposite. These are local shops owned and run by residents of the neighbourhood so if you get the chance please use them.
The natural park at the end of Valdelagrana Beach (Los Torunos) and the Salt Marshes behind the train station are an unexpected delight and great places to walk, run, cycle and bird watch. Wild Flamingos and other wildlife thrive in the marshes and are easy to see.
